How to add a client to a mailing list?

Anyone had a query from a customer who wants to be added to the mailing list, but MC comes up with saying that they’ve unsubscribed and can’t be added manually. They need to signup through the MC form? Is there a work around? Don’t really want to tell my client to tell her customers to signup again via her website????
