Cons of no-code development

Difficulty choosing the right resources

When choosing from a variety of no-code tools, it is important to be clear about what you want to create in the end. Otherwise, you can find a platform, pay a tariff, start development - and when half of the project is ready, you realize that you lack the functions to complete it. Another common scenario: paying for a feature-rich platform, most of the features of which simply won't come in handy.

Compromises often have to be made. One platform is designed for MVP only. Another is designing great web applications. The third one specializes in mobile. And to design a complex backend, only the fourth is suitable, but then the interface will be quite simple.

Often the project will be platform dependent

Not all no-code constructors create applications that can be "taken away" - that is, download the source code or binaries. The platform also works like an engine, without which the application cannot work. That means, it seems to be yours, but not completely.

If for small applications and MVP this is not critical, then for more serious and long projects the risks are higher. The platform may close. Or the quality of service and technical support will suddenly deteriorate. If the project grows or you decide to expand it, you may not have enough existing functions and capacities. Not to mention the fact that in case of technical work or failures, your resource will also be unavailable.

Dependency on a no-code platform is similar to dependence on a hosting or cloud service, but there is an important difference. If the hoster ceases to suit you, you can always (even if you hire a programmer) move the site. But if it only works on a specific platform, you will have to either accept the situation or develop a new one.

Although there is a positive trend: designers are gradually abandoning attempts to "bind" users. After all, the no-code market is growing, there are more tools, and the ability to provide an independent application is a serious competitive advantage.

Several functionality limitations

No-code development is not suitable for creating something fundamentally new. Of course, there are no-code tools for many custom tasks, business processes, and even game mechanics. In principle, it is possible to create them. But for this, you need to "decompose" the code into separate custom blocks, create templates, test on different tasks.

Therefore, users of no-code platforms will inevitably face restrictions. Sometimes literally a couple of functions are missing to complete a project. Of course, many no-code platforms allow you to add blocks of custom code, while low-code offers even more flexible development. However, neither no-code nor low-code has the same completeness as traditional development. Although many (including us) are sure that with the development of AI, everything will change. But you need to give no-code time.

Now it is better to choose a platform with a developed community, and ideally so that its developers are ready to create blocks for specific projects themselves.

It may be more expensive than you expected

No-code development is always fast, but not always cheap. Platform rates often depend not only on the functionality and service but also on the number of users of the finished application.

Therefore, no-code is not always suitable for long-term projects. After all, the cost per year can be comparable to the cost of traditional development. If you also depend on the platform, you will have to pay further or develop an application from scratch.

If you decided (or originally planned) to hire a professional no-code developer, keep in mind that his work can cost up to $ 100 per hour or more. It's cheaper than hiring a team anyway but hardly suitable for a small startup.

Even if you are going to create a project yourself - find out how much the work of specialists on your platform (or similar ones) costs. After all, their help may be needed at any time.

Difficult to find an expert

There are not so many no-code developers who can choose the right tools for your project. Communities most often gather around large platforms or training portals: there is a lot of materials, support, and forums. But you can learn how to work with specific tools, while not knowing even half of the possibilities of no-code.

Therefore, there is still an acute shortage of experts. Sometimes you have to wait for weeks for the required specialist to become available, although the development itself will take several days.

You will have to learn in any case

Of course, most no-code constructors are intuitive. But you still have to understand the functionality, the basics of programming, the principles of operation of modern applications. And it is very important to choose the right platform - after all, despite the similarities, when working with each of them some nuances will have to be studied.

Regardless of whether you plan to create a project yourself or hire a specialist, you will have to learn development anyway. At least to find a suitable constructor and understand how successfully the work is progressing.

Do the pros outweigh

Yes, of course.

Development speed, adaptability of functionality, compatibility with different platforms, no need for large teams. All of this more than compensates for the limitations and disadvantages of no-code. The main thing is to understand what is important for your project.

Review on AppMaster.io Web Application Designer

To get started, go to the Web Apps tab - all applications created within your project will be displayed. Here you can open them for editing, delete or create new ones.

To configure the selected application - click on its preview.

Edit window

The web application editing window allows you to customize its appearance, data exchange with the backend, as well as some general parameters.

In the information field about the project (1), you will see its name, you can go to the settings, share it, open the API documentation, and also see the published version of your web application. The publish button (2) allows you to publish the project - apply all saved changes that you made in the web application designer and other sections of AppMaster.io Studio.

Below is the name of your application (1). Lower are the tabs (2) for the transition between the application settings and its authorization and registration forms (they are configured separately).

On the right (3), you can export the config file (config.json) or reset it to default settings, open the settings of the current web application and save the changes you made to it (without publishing).

Components

The component area contains the blocks required to create and customize the interface of a web application. To add a component to the interface, drag it with the mouse to one of the sections of the screen.

The components are divided into 3 groups:

  1. Creation of structure and menu items - add pages and page groups.
  2. Page markup and adding forms, buttons, lists, maps, etc.
  3. Modal (pop-up) windows.

The component color matches the color of the section to which it can be added. For example, the Page component is for the Main Menu, and the Modal is for the App components.

We will soon add the list of components and their detailed description to the documents.

Sections

Page section (1) appears after you add at least one page to your application (2).

Above the main canvas in the header (1). It will be displayed at the very top of the web application window, on all its pages. Here you can add exit and return buttons, logo, contacts, language switcher, etc.

On the left is the menu (2). In the section App components (3) you can add modals that will be available on all pages of the application. Modals are not visible to users until the event that triggers them occurs.

Below is the "trash bin" (4) to quickly remove components from the page by dragging and dropping (you can also click the trash can icon in the settings window).

Below the main section is Page components (1). The modals you add here will only be available on the current page.

The bottommost section, the footer (2), works in a similar way to the header.

Star of work

The best way of working: Before creating a web application in AppMaster.io - think over its layout and design a backend. After that, you can add the necessary components - and immediately link them to the database and business processes.

Detailed information about our no-code platform is in the docs. Specific examples of settings are in the blog and on the YouTube channel.

Why don't emails sent from ActiveCampaign reach their destination?

We hear about deliverability. Are those emails just not sent? Or they are sent and the recipient's system does something? I have one contact today who has received SOME of my emails, but not all. I see in the backend that it is sent. She checked spam and deleted folders, yet they are not there. So what to do??

16 answers, 0 articles
They are sent. Likely the receiving mail provider decided not to deliver for some reason or another. Deliverability is not a science by any means.

We’re struggling with this. We switched to AC in May 2020 and switched a bunch of other tech as well. Less than half of our contacts were getting our emails. We set up DKIM and it helped, but we still have a few who aren’t getting anything in spam or to their inbox.

Which chatbot to choose to work with Activecampaign?

We're just getting started with AC and I already have Calendly and we'd like to get a chatbot running on our website at some point. We moved over from HubSpot and that was built into the plan we had with them but I understand I'd need a 3rd party for one. With that said, I think I've narrowed it down to Drift or Intercom. Does anyone have any experience with either and the pros & cons I should look out for? Thanks in advance.

ActiveCampaign has an add-on called Conversations that has some bot functionality. Might want to take a look at that. Drift is also a great solution.

Can I use one account Activecampaign for different businesses or is it better to use different domains?

The majority of his business is non-insurance based Plastic Surgery. Other practices under his umbrella company are insurance based (ENT, Ortho, etc...). I am going to install ActiveCampaign (potentially white-labled) for the Plastics division. My question is the other divisions want the abilities as well. Should I sell each practice it's own license or should I book it under one company and segment via lists? I'm leaning individual instances, but I don't want an ongoing nightmare of managing all of them. I'm a two man shop and don't have a ton of bandwidth.

We were using AC for two businesses from one account. In the beginning it was useful, but now we have faced some problems. My suggestion is to use different AC accounts for different domains

If they are separate entities, do separate accounts. If one entity, do one account and segment via Lists/Tags.
